Jr. & Sr Youth Council
Mission Statement

Get Involved!

Leadership

Youth Council (Youth 6th - 12th grade)

Youth interested in serving on Jr. Youth Council (6th - 8th grade) or Sr. Youth Council (9th - 12th grade). Responsibilities include (but not limited to) helping to plan activities, support current activities and make decisions for future growth of the Youth Ministry of the parish. Applications to run for either council are available in mid March and elections will be the first weekend in May.

Time commitment: Monthly council meetings (currently first Monday of the month) for one year.

Ministry

Activities (Youth & Adults)

This ministry consists of social events such as ski trips, Chess & Risk clubs, lock-ins, laser tag, Extreme Bowling and more. Adults and youth are needed to coordinate these events. The Diocese requires background checks (Volunteer Select) for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry.

Time commitment: Planning meetings (as needed) and one event.

Retreats (Youth & Adults)

Diocesan retreat opportunities such as Discovery, Christian Awakening and Parish Retreats (i.e., Workcamps In-service Retreat) need to be planned by those interested in this area. The Diocese requires background checks (Volunteer Select) for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry.

Outreach

Redeemer Service Corps (Youth & Adults)

Modeled in the philosophy of the Peace Corps, this ministry is service to our parish and community. Small teams of youth and adults are assigned projects, which may include (but limited to) minor home maintenance (yard work, winterizations, painting, etc.), our church or other needs in the area. This ministry is intended for youth (grades 6 -12) and adults, but entire families are welcome to participate. The Diocese requires background checks (Volunteer Select) for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry.

Time commitment: Currently we have a workday one Saturday every month from September thru May. On occasion, there may be special projects that need help from this ministry.

Workcamp (Sr. Youth & Adults)

The summer workcamp experiences are a tremendous way for Sr. Youth and adults to live out the gospel. Redeemer is involved in 2 workcamp experiences: Catholic Heart Workcamps and Tri-Cities, Inc. Any youth (current 8th - 11th) and adults interested in workcamp will attend informational meetings in the fall. The Diocese requires background checks (Volunteer Select) for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry. This ministry is in need of volunteer planners & coordinators.

Time commitment: One informational meeting in the fall, one mandatory Workcamp In-service Retreat, 1-2 organizational/formational meeting(s) and one full week in the following summer.

Jr. Youth Mini-Workcamp (Youth & Adults)

This summer activity is designed for 6th -8th grade youth and adults to have a workcamp experience without the commitment of an entire week. For 4 hours a day, we will offer a three-day (Tuesday -Thursday) experience that will allow those involved to serve our Redeemer and surrounding communities. Each day, several teams will complete service projects in the community and then come back to Redeemer for a discussion on the importance of putting Catholic social justice into action. The Diocese requires background checks (Volunteer Select) for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry. This ministry is in need of volunteer planners & coordinators.

Time commitment: One three-day week in the summer (most likely in July); 1-2 formation and/or group building events prior to the three days of service.

Religious Education

Youth R.E. Lead Catechists (Adults)

Confirmed Catholics are needed to teach Religious Education classes for grades on Sunday mornings or evenings. Session dates and topics will already be chosen. Ideally, separate teams of 3-4 adults will be formed for the morning and evening sessions. The Diocese requires background checks (Volunteer Select) for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry.

Time commitment: 14 sessions, September-February, Sunday at 11:30 a.m. or 6:00 p.m.

Youth R.E. Coaches (Adults)

Confirmed Catholics to help with small group activities during one of the R.E. sessions.  This is not a teaching position, although you will be sharing your faith experience with our youth. The Diocese requires background checks (Volunteer Select) for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry.

Time commitment: 14 sessions, September-February, Sunday at 11:30 a.m. or 6:00 p.m.

Youth R.E. Session Coordinator (Adults)

Oversee the morning or evening scheduled R.E. sessions (total of 14 for the whole year) that includes opening the building (if needed), distributing supplies and attendance sheets to teachers and locking up after the session.  This is not a teaching position.  The Diocese requires background checks (Volunteer Select) for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry.

Youth R.E. Hospitality Crew (Adults)

Morning or evening crews are scheduled to coordinate the snack portion of the R.E. sessions. Although there are a total of 14 sessions, members of the crew usually volunteer for no more than 2-3 sessions for the entire year. Youth are in charge of bringing the snacks to each session. Crews will organize the snacks and clean up afterwards.  This is not a teaching position.  The Diocese requires background checks (Volunteer Select) for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry.

Time commitment: only 2 to 3 of the scheduled 14 sessions, September-February, Sunday at 11:30 a.m. or 6:00 p.m.

Music Ministry

Youth Choir (Youth)

Youth (6th - 12th) singers & instrumentalists who are interested in learning more about music and what role it has in liturgy.  There will be many opportunities to participate at Mass throughout the year, including Youth Masses. (calendar)

Time commitment: Rehearsal on Wednesdays from 6:45pm - 8:00pm September - May

Children’s Chime Ringers

Children's Chime Ringers is a chime choir for children (2nd - 5th grade) who are interested in a fun way of learning how to ring chimes and bells at Liturgies during the year. All training is provided and ability to read music in not necessary. (calendar)

Time commitment: Summer Handbell Camp (usually in July) is encouraged but not required. Rehearsal are Thursdays, 5:15p.m. – 6:15p.m. from September – May and seasonal Saturday rehearsals.

New Hope Ringers

New Hope Ringers is a handbell choir for youth (6th - 12th grade) who are interested in a fun way of learning how to ring chimes and bells at Liturgies during the year. All training is provided and ability to read music in not necessary.

Time commitment: Summer Handbell Camp (usually in July) is encouraged but not required. Rehearsal are Thursdays, 6:15 pm - 7:15 pm from September – May and seasonal Saturday rehearsals.
