Loaves and Fishes

Redeemer is committed to providing nutritious, hot meals in a dignified, safe and caring environment for our guests at the Conrad Center, a component of Freedom House. Our Loaves & Fishes ministry has many wonderful, dedicated volunteers. Without them, we wouldn't be able to do what we do. We invite you to join us in our service to the community through the Conrad Center. Volunteer activities include donations of items, meal preparation, set-up at the dining hall, serving of the food and drinks, and clean-up. Redeemer is lucky to have two separate Loaves & Fishes opportunities...L & F - Sundays and L & F - Mondays!

On seven Sundays throughout the year, we will serve lunch to100-150 guests through our Loaves and Fishes - Sunday Ministry. In 2011 we will host Loaves & Fishes on January 30, March 13, May 29, July 31, September 11, October 30, and December 11. Our Sunday commitment opportunities includes donating food items, meeting in the Redeemer Kitchen at 10:45 to load supplies into cars; then carpool to the Conrad Center (1400 Oliver Hill Way) to prepare (11:00 – 12:30), serve (12:30 – 1:30) and clean-up (1:30 – 2:00) the meal.

On the fourth Monday of each month, we will serve dinner to 150-200 guests through our Loaves & Fishes - Monday Ministry. Volunteers meet at Redeemer at 4:30 and head to the Conrad Center  to serve dinner between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. Note that Loaves & Fishes-Monday is the same, much beloved ministry formerly known as “Freedom House”.

"Our efforts to ... serve the poor and vulnerable must be accompanied by concrete efforts to address the causes of human suffering and injustice ... We are called to transform our hearts and our social structures, to renew the face of the earth ... We cannot celebrate a faith we do not practice. We cannot proclaim a gospel we do not live."
